The university was denied to perform a nationwide search for a replacement, so they are required to stay in house. Rich Shayewitz was named the Director of Basketball, assuming interim head coaching duties for the Men’s Basketball team, with JJ Santa Cruz serving as his main assistant. Shayewiz will contine as the Head Women’s basketball coach, with his main assistant being Lindsay Foster.

The university had some notable names reach out to them regarding the position, but were denied due to the schools decision. Most notibly a few PAC-12 assistant coaches had reached out to Sonoma State.

“I’d like to thank our vice president, Joyce Lopes, and our athletic administration, Nicole Annaloro, Stan Nosek, Jared Chasey, and David Rhoades for believing in me to take on such a big task.” Shayewitz adds, “It will be a team effort among all the coaches in both programs to work together to give our student-athletes the best experience possible in this unique time. I am excited to share all my experience with our student-athletes and hope that we can continually elevate the programs to the next level.”
