Over this past weekend, we had some exciting games go down in Sonoma County, including the Cardinal Newman versus Windsor game that took place on Friday night and was live streamed on YSN365.
In the matchup with the Cardinals and Jaguars, it was a turnover heavy battle with Windsor racking up four turnovers in the game and Newman had three. In the end, Senior Receiver Tsion Nunnally came away with four touchdowns and led Cardinal Newman to a 28-7 victory over Windsor.
In Ukiah, St. Vincent High School took on the Wildcats. At halftime, Ukiah led 7-6. In the second half, the Mustangs were able to run all over the Wildcats as Sophomore Running Back Kai Hall finished with 17 carries for 103 yards in his ninth straight game with 100 or more rushing yards. Colby Furia was 13-19 passing with two touchdowns on 137 yards. All and all, the Mustangs were able to grab the victory keeping Ukiah scoreless in the second half, 24-7.
Petaluma traveled to Napa to face the Vintage Crushers. Vintage came out ready to win and they did exactly that with a shutout victory against the Trojans, 57-0. Junior Running Back Dylan Smith had another tremendous game rushing for 197 yards on seven carries for two touchdowns.
American Canyon Wolves faced off against Napa in a defensive battle. Napa was able to get on the board in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead. Their defense held up to keep the lead until under a minute left in the first half and the Wolves scored to make it 7-3. Napa would be unable to score again and American Canyon would tack on one more with a missed PAT to make the final score 13-3.
Justin-Siena took on Sonoma Valley in the penultimate game at historic Arnold Field on Friday. Sonoma was unable to stop the Braves offense in the 38-14 JS victory. Senior Running Back Adrian Alverez for Sonoma tried to get something going for them as he finished the game with 123 yards and two touchdowns, but wouldn’t be enough. This pushes the Braves to 2-0, tied for first in the Vine Valley Athletic League.
In Rohnert Park, the Casa Grande made the short trip up 101 to take on Rancho Cotate. In the Cougar’s first game of the season, they came out firing as they were able to beat the Gauchos 49-13.
El Molino put on an offensive display beating Healdsburg 43-2 Saturday afternoon. Senior quarterback Weston Lewis was 10-14 passing for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns. El Mo was also led by senior running back DJ Ramalia who had 16 carries for 82 yards and junior wide receiver Ian Hocheder catching five passes for 55 yards offensively. On defense it was senior linebacker Dylan Dekker with a team leading 14 tackles.
